Ever conscious of her role as the Apostle’s wife, Sister Adkins has been steadfastly by his side. In the first years of the ministry, it was First Lady Adkins that prepared the programs, assisted as secretary, ushered, sung in the choir, and even cleaned the church. Her model of leadership was, and still is, by example. Her commitment to the ministry continued when she opened the Carter G. Woodson Christian Academy. This multicultural day care received every honor imaginable from the State of Tennessee. The State Department of Human Services used Carter G. Woodson as a model for other day cares. Continually by the side of her husband, First Lady Adkins has traveled to five of the seven continents, assisting in missions in Ghana, Senegal, The Gambia, and Benin. Fluent in French, she has at times served as interpreter for her husband, the Apostle. All the while, she manages to be the loving mother of three sons and a daughter. According to Apostle Adkins, “She is that part of me that I needed so much. All that I am not, she is. Whatever I have accomplished or become, she deserves much of the credit. God blessed me with a wife, lover, partner and friend.” |
